Antiquarian Booksellers' Association of America (ABAA) "specializes in rare and antiquarian books, maps, and prints. We have over 330 dealers in rare books available online."

Booksense.com. An American Booksellers Association effort, Booksense.com will provide a virtual presence for independent bookstores nationwide. Customers can use the site to purchase books from their local bookstore, just as they would from Amazon. Launch is scheduled for July, 2000.

BookSite. Booksite helps bookstores create an online retail space, complete with Ingram's or Baker and Taylor's database, book cover graphics, order tracking, etc. Offers a free trial.

The Book Industry Study Group, "a membership-supported, not-for-profit research organization, is comprised of organizations from every sector of the publishing community. Its goal is to provide accurate and current research information about the industry for its members and others." BISG publishes unique and useful studies such as Book Industry Trends 1999 and Consumer Research Study on Book Purchasing 1998. Purchase information.

Northern California Independent Booksellers Association. "These pages are a resource for readers, book lovers and consumers. Bestsellers, a store directory, recommended reading, book news, links to web sites and more can be found here."

Professional Organizations

American Booksellers Association. The ABA. "A not-for-profit trade organization devoted to meeting the needs of its core members--independently owned bookstores with store front locations--through advocacy, education, research, and information dissemination. The ABA actively supports free speech, literacy, and programs that encourage children to read."

Canadian Booksellers Association

Independent Online Booksellers Association Is Amazon "independent"? Well, it's not a member of IOBA. But plenty of small booksellers are.
