(Seattle, WA - March 23, 2010) - NetRead Software and Services, LLC, NetRead Software and Services, LLC, a solutions provider to the book industry, announced a metadata partnership today with Small Press Distribution, a non-profit distributor of books and poetry. Under terms of the agreement, Small Press Distribution will use NetRead's JacketCaster software application to manage, convert, and distribute its title information to a myriad of bookselling partners and data entities. JacketCaster is architected around the book industry XML-standard called ONIX, the essential metadata format for bookselling and distribution.
"We're proud to work with Small Press Distribution, and support their 400+ independent publishers of poetry, fiction and literary non-fiction," said Greg Aden, CEO of NetRead Software and Services, LLC. "In addition to an excellent partnership, we believe in supporting the small and independent publishers."
NetRead celebrates JacketCaster's 10-year anniversary in May. JacketCaster was the first ONIX-conversion application. The internationally-recognized ONIX standard allows publishers and distributors to quickly list titles and affect changes with booksellers and industry players such as Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, Ingram, Baker & Taylor, and Bowker.
SPD's Executive Director Jeffrey Lependort said, "We believe strongly that NetRead will be an integral part of how we serve our core mission: getting independently published literature from writers to readers."
Small Press Distribution (www.spdbooks.org), founded in 1969, is currently the only U.S. distributor dedicated exclusively to independently published literature.
NetRead's longstanding support of the literary community began with its sponsorship of Litstock, a Bay Area literary festival that has evolved into the popular San Francisco literary event, LitQuake.
NetRead is a leader in innovative book-marketing tools. NetRead's JacketCaster defines the Long Tail in publishing, saves publishers time, and increases online book sales. Privately-held, NetRead is based in Pioneer Square, a rain shadow of history in downtown Seattle.
